A Dhaka court has ordered the freezing of 358 bank accounts belonging to Salman F Rahman, former adviser to the ex-prime minister on private industry and investment, and chairman of Beximco Group, along with his family members and associates.
The order was issued by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib on Monday in response to a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
ACC Deputy Director Muhammad Zainal Abedin submitted the petition.
The petition said that Salman F Rahman and others were accused of embezzling thousands of crores of taka from shareholders through placement share manipulation and fraud.
Allegations also include illegally influencing various public and private banks to obtain approximately Tk36,000 crore in loans, misappropriating funds, and laundering thousands of crores of taka abroad.
During the investigation, bank accounts linked to Salman F Rahman, his family members, and close associates were identified.
According to reliable sources, attempts were being made to transfer, relocate, or convert funds from these accounts.
If such attempts succeed, it would hinder the filing of cases following the investigation, submission of charge sheets in court, trial proceedings, and potential confiscation of illicit assets by the government as part of sentencing.
To ensure a fair investigation and uphold justice, the court deemed it necessary to freeze the bank accounts of Salman F Rahman, his family members, and his associates.
