The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has suspended the anticipatory bail granted to Suparna Sur Chowdhury and Nandita Sur Chowdhury, the wife and daughter of former Bangladesh Bank deputy governor Sitangshu Kumar (SK) Sur Chowdhury.

The suspension is related to a case filed for their failure to submit a statement of assets within the stipulated time, according to Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Deputy Director Md Aktarul Islam.

The Appellate Division, led by Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam, issued this order on Monday.

Barristers AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon and Mizanur Rahman represented the defendants in court, while Advocate Asif Hossain appeared for the ACC.

Earlier, on February 9, the High Court had granted anticipatory bail to Suparna Sur Chowdhury and Nandita Sur Chowdhury in the case filed for failing to submit their asset statement.

After hearing their petition, the High Court bench comprising Justice Muhammad Mahbub-ul Islam and Justice Md Hamidul Rahman passed the order.

The charges against the accused were brought under Section 26(2) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, for failure to submit an asset statement.

Prior to this, in August 2022, the ACC had sent letters to banks and financial institutions seeking information on all types of transactions related to this family.
