Two of the suspects arrested in connection with the robbery and sexual harassment incident on a moving Rajshahi-bound bus on the Dhaka-Tangail highway have given confessional statements under Section 164 in court.

On Saturday evening, Senior Judicial Magistrate Naureen Karim of Tangail court recorded the confessional statements of the two suspects.

The same court also granted a five-day remand for another suspect.

Additional superintendent of police in Tangail, Abdullah Al Mamun, confirmed the matter.

The suspects who confessed are Sabuj, 30, son of Ismail Molla from Ramkrishnapur village in Zajira upazila, Shariatpur, and Sharifuzzaman, 28, son of Abul Hossain from Tan Genda, Savar, Dhaka.

The suspect placed on remand is Shahidul Islam, also known as Mahidul Muhit, 29, son of Badar Uddin Sheikh from Lautara village in Daulatpur upazila, Manikganj.

According to police and court sources, the three members of the robbery gang were sent to Tangail court on Saturday afternoon following their arrest on Friday night.

Among them, Sabuj and Sharifuzzaman agreed to give confessional statements, while Shahidul refused.

As a result, police sought a five-day remand for him.

After a hearing in the afternoon, Senior Judicial Magistrate Naureen Karim approved the remand, and in the evening, the statements of the other two suspects were recorded.

Earlier, on Friday morning, passenger Omar Ali filed a case against 8 to 9 unidentified suspects.

The robbery took place on a Unique Road Royals bus in the early hours of Monday.

The bus departed from Dhaka’s Gabtoli at around 11:30pm on Monday. Around 12:30am, a group of robbers took control of the vehicle at gunpoint, injuring several passengers before starting their looting spree.

The robbery and acts of sexual harassment reportedly continued for nearly three hours as the bus was driven through different locations.

Eventually, the gang stopped the bus in an isolated area of Mirzapur, Tangail, and fled.
