Former ministers and leaders of the Workers' Party and JSD, Rashed Khan Menon and Hasanul Haq Inu, have been placed on a three-day remand in connection with the murder case of Anwar Hossain Patwari, who was shot dead in the Mirpur Circle area during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate GM Farhan Ishtiaq granted the remand order on Monday.

The case's investigating officer, CID Inspector Nasir Uddin Sarkar, had sought a five-day remand for them.

The accused were presented in court during the hearing.

On behalf of the state, Dhaka Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Omar Faruq Faruqi argued in favor of the remand.

The defense lawyers appealed for bail, requesting the cancellation of the remand.

After hearing both sides, the court granted a three-day remand.

A team from the Detective Branch (DB) of the police arrested Inu from a house in Uttara on August 25.

He was later interrogated multiple times in connection with various cases.

Earlier, on August 22, Rashed Khan Menon was arrested from the Gulshan area of the capital.

Menon had also been taken into remand in different cases before.

According to reports, during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on August 5—the day of the fall of the Awami government—Anwar Hossain Patwari was shot dead in the Mirpur Circle area.

Following the incident, his father, Al Amin Patwari, filed a murder case at the Mirpur Model police station.
