A Dhaka court has placed former chief news editor of the private channel Ekattor TV Shakil Ahmed and his wife, former chief reporter and anchor Farzana Rupa on a five-day remand in the murder case of Anwar Hossain Patwari, who was shot dead during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
On Monday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate GM Farhan Ishtiaq issued the remand order.
The investigating officer of the case, CID Inspector Nasir Uddin Sarker, applied for a five-day remand for them. On Monday, they were presented before the court for the hearing.
On behalf of the state, Dhaka Metropolitan Public Prosecutor Omar Faruq Faruqi argued in favour of granting the remand. Subsequently, the court approved the five-day remand.
During the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, on the day of the fall of the Awami League government, August 5, Anwar Hossain Patwari was shot dead in the Gol Chattar area of Mirpur. Following the incident, his father, Al Amin Patwari, filed a murder case at Mirpur Model Police Station.
