Salman, Anisul, Palak, others placed on 4-day remand

They have been placed on the remand in connection with the murder of Md Parvez Mia who was shot during the Anti-Discrimination movement

Salman F Rahman, former adviser to Sheikh Hasina, Anisul Huq, former law minister, Zunaid Ahmed Palak, former state minister for ICT, and Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury, former ambassador and ex-president of Trinamool BNP, have been granted a four day remand in connection with the murder of Md Parvez Mia.

The incident occurred during the Anti-Discrimination movement in Jatrabari, Dhaka, where Parvez Mia was shot on August 5.

On Monday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate GM Farhan Ishtiaq issued this order after a hearing.

Earlier in the morning, the investigating officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Md. Nazmul Hasan of Jatrabari police station, produced them in court and sought a 10-day remand.

Public Prosecutor Omar Faruq Faruqi argued in favor of the remand, while the defense lawyers for the accused requested bail by appealing for the remand to be canceled. After the hearing, the court granted a 4-day remand.

According to case sources, on August 5, Parvez Mia participated in the Anti-Discrimination movement in the Jatrabari area of the capital.

In the afternoon, he was injured by gunfire allegedly shot by the accused and was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Shortly after, doctors declared him dead.

Following the incident, the victim’s mother, Kanis Fatema, filed the case at Jatrabari police station on October 29.
