Ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina's private sector and investment adviser Salman F Rahman, alongside former minister Anisul Huq and former state minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak, has been shown arrested in connection with new cases.
A total of 16 individuals, including prominent political figures and former high-ranking officials, were shown arrested following court orders.
Police presented the accused in court on Monday, where the investigation officers applied for their arrest. The request was promptly approved by Dhaka's Additional Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ziadur Rahman.
The arrest orders come after investigations into multiple cases in different police jurisdictions, primarily concerning the Jatrabari, Mohammadpur, and Sutrapur areas, among others.
Salman F Rahman was arrested in four cases from Jatrabari police station and one from Mohammadpur police station.
Similarly, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal President Hasanul Haq Inu and Bangladesh Workers' Party President Rashed Khan Menon faced arrests in five cases across these stations.
Other notable arrests include Dr Dipu Moni, who was arrested in two cases from Jatrabari.
Former law minister Anisul Huq found himself in the spotlight with arrests in multiple cases from Jatrabari, Mohammadpur, and Khilgaon.
Zunaid Ahmed Palak, the former ICT state minister, was arrested in relation to cases from Jatrabari and Sutrapur police stations.
Additional arrests were made, including that of former member of parliament Haji Selim in a Jatrabari case, and former member of parliament ABM Fazle Karim Chowdhury in cases from the Kotwali and Uttara West police stations.
The legal proceedings also led to the detention of former IGP Choudhury Abdullah Al Mamun, arrested in several cases from Jatrabari, Mohammadpur, Sutrapur, and Khilgaon police stations. Former IGP Shahidul Haque was also arrested in a case from Jatrabari.
In addition, key figures such as Nassa Group Chairman and former Exim Bank chairman Nazrul Islam Majumdar, former secretary Chowdhury Jahangir Alam, and several other individuals were arrested in connection with cases in Jatrabari, Sutrapur, and Kafrul police jurisdictions.
