A Dhaka tribunal has acquitted 173 leaders and activists of BNP, including Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy and Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, in a sabotage case filed at Dhaka's Ramna police station in 2018.

Judge Shihab Uddin Islam of Dhaka Special Tribunal-16 issued the order on Wednesday.

It was reported that the court granted their acquittal at the charge-framing stage.

According to case details, on January 30, 2018, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was returning home after appearing at a special court located near the old central jail on Nazimuddin Road in Dhaka.

At that time, BNP leaders and activists were chanting slogans on the street near Paribagh in Shahbagh police station's jurisdiction.

A clash ensued between the leaders and activists and the police.

Following the incident, Sub-Inspector Md Mohibullah of Ramna Model police station filed a case.

After an investigation, Detective Branch's (DB) Ramna Zonal Team Sub-Inspector Mohammad Saiful Islam Khan submitted the charge sheet to the court on January 29, 2020.
