The state appealed against the High Court's verdict canceling four extortion cases filed against BNP's acting chairman Tarique Rahman.
The state has filed a leave to appeal against the High Court’s decision to cancel the cases.
On Sunday, the state’s petitions were included in the Supreme Court’s cause list for hearing.
The petitions will be heard by a bench of four judges led by Senior Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam.
In the petition, the state argued that the High Court's verdict to cancel the cases against Tarique Rahman was incorrect.
On October 23, a High Court bench of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Enayet Hossain had cancelled the four cases filed against Tarique Rahman.
The state has filed a leave to appeal against this ruling.
The High Court cancelled the four extortion cases filed against Tarique Rahman during the state-supported caretaker government in 2007.
In a press briefing at the court premises, Tarique Rahman’s lawyers, Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon and Barrister Kaiser Kamal, said that Tarique Rahman intends to resolve the cases through legal procedures.
He has around 80 cases filed against him, which will be addressed legally.
Barrister Kaiser Kamal, the legal secretary of BNP, said that Tarique Rahman is interested in resolving his cases only after all the political cases filed against the party’s leaders and workers are disposed of.
These four extortion cases were filed against Tarique Rahman at the Kafrul police station in Dhaka during the time of the military-backed caretaker government in 2007.
