The High Court has instructed the police to prevent gatherings on rooftops, buildings, open spaces, and parks in Dhaka on the 31st night, as well as banning the use of firecrackers, crackers, and cocktails during the celebrations.
The directive was issued by a High Court bench comprising Justice Md Jahangir Hossain and Justice KM Rasheduzzaman Raja following a writ petition filed by Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Md Ashraf Uz Zaman on Tuesday.
Advocate Ashraf Uz Zaman presented the petition in court, requesting measures to restrict disruptive activities during the New Year’s Eve celebrations.
“The writ sought orders to prohibit events involving loud noises between 11pm and 1am, along with banning firecrackers and lanterns on rooftops. It also urged the court to stop public gatherings on roads, parks, and open spaces after 10pm on December 31,” the lawyer stated.
Additionally, the petition called for a ban on the sale of firecrackers and lanterns on that day and recommended the deployment of mobile courts to enforce these measures effectively.
