A writ petition has been filed in the High Court seeking strict measures, including the imposition of Section 144, to prevent fireworks and public gatherings on rooftops, open spaces, and parks in Dhaka on New Year’s Eve.
Supreme Court lawyer Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman filed the petition on Monday, requesting the court to order a prohibition on such activities from 10pm to 1am to maintain order and public safety.
The High Court bench led by Justice Md Jahangir Hossain is expected to hear the petition.
The writ names the home ministry secretary, inspector general of police (IGP), Dhaka metropolitan police commissioner, and other relevant authorities as respondents.
