The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court has stayed the High Court's interim bail order granted to Shomi Kaiser, former president of the E-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB) and actress, in a case filed for attempted murder during the student-civil protest in July-August.

Chamber Judge Justice Md Rezaul Haque issued the stay order on Thursday, following a hearing on a state petition seeking suspension of the bail.

The petition has been scheduled for hearing before the Appellate Division's regular bench on January 6.

The case was filed at Uttara East Police Station on October 29, accusing Shomi Kaiser of attempted murder in connection with injuries sustained during the protest. Police arrested her from a residence in Uttara on last Friday.

After her bail plea was denied by the lower court, Shomi Kaiser applied to the High Court, which granted her interim bail on December 10.

The state then moved to the Appellate Division to suspend the order, bringing the matter before the chamber court on Thursday.

Deputy Attorney General Redwan Ahmed Ranjib represented the state during the hearing, while Shomi Kaiser was represented by Advocate Hamidul Misbah, assisted by Advocate Nazia Kabir.
