A Habiganj court has granted a two-day remand for former member of parliament from Habiganj-4, Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Suman.
Judicial Magistrate Kamrul Hasan of the Habiganj court issued the remand order on Thursday.
On July 16, a case was filed against Suman and 96 others, accusing them of assaulting students participating in the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement in Chunarughat's Shaistaganj New Bridge Circle.
Suman was arrested on October 22 in Mirpur, Dhaka, and has been in the Dhaka Central Jail since then.
As part of the remand hearing, Barrister Suman was transferred to Habiganj Jail on Wednesday ahead of Thursday's court session.
Suman's lawyer, Md Shahidul Islam, argued that his client had been falsely implicated in the case.
He said that Suman was not present at the scene on the day of the incident and had no involvement in the case. He claimed that the allegations were an attempt to ruin Suman's reputation.
Meanwhile, some miscreants threw eggs at the van carrying Suman to the court.
