A court has placed a woman on a three-day remand in connection with the kidnapping of an eight-month-old baby, following a house robbery in Azimpur, Dhaka.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arobia Khanam passed the order on Sunday as police produced Fatema Akter Shapla before the court and pleaded for a five-day remand in the case filed with Lalbagh police station.
According to the case documents, the accused came to the house of the victim Jannat Jaifa on Friday.
Jaifa's mother, a stenographer for the Ministry of Home Affairs, knew her from before.
Shapla somehow managed to drug her, leaving her unconscious.
Later, Shapla called three of her accomplices and they looted Tk1.70 lakh in cash and gold ornaments from the house.
They kidnapped eight-month-old Jaifa as well.
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) managed to detain Fatema Akter Shapla from the Mohammadpur area and rescued Jaifa.
