Remand hearing for Salim is scheduled for November 27

Update : 14 Nov 2024, 04:21 PM

Former member of parliament from Dhaka-7 Mohammad Solaiman Salim has been sent to jail in a case filed over the killing of Rakib Hawladar during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Muhammad Junaid issued the order on Thursday, scheduling the remand hearing for November 27.

Chawkbazar model police station Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Abul Khair presented Salim in court and applied for a 10-day remand.

The defence requested bail and cancellation of the remand.

However, due to the unavailability of the case documents, the court ordered him to be sent to jail and set the remand hearing date.

Selim was arrested by Chawkbazar police late on Wednesday night at a residence in Gulshan, Dhaka.

The case alleges that on the morning of August 5, leaders and activists of various affiliates of the Awami League armed with firearms and locally made weapons indiscriminately opened fire and exploded cocktails on protesting students and people at the Chankharpul intersection in Dhaka.

Rakib Hawladar was allegedly struck by a bullet fired by Awami League activists.

When efforts were made to take him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Awami League activists reportedly obstructed the attempt.

He was later taken to Sir Salimullah Medical College (Mitford) Hospital, where doctors declared him dead around 2:45pm.

On September 23, Rakib's father, Md Jahangir Hossain, filed a murder case at Chawkbazar model police station in connection with the incident.
