The High Court has directed the authorities to implement effective measures to control the spread of dengue across the country, including in Dhaka.
The bench of Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Mubina Asaf issued the order on Tuesday.
The order requires the secretary of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives, the secretary of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, and both Dhaka city corporations to take immediate action, with a report on their progress due within 30 days.
The court also called for the formation of a high-powered committee to devise a long-term dengue control strategy, advising that experts be included in this committee.
Additionally, the court issued a ruling asking why the government authorities’ failure to control dengue should not be declared illegal. Barrister Mahin M Rahman represented the writ petitioner.
The writ was filed by Barrister Mahin M Rahman, who sought directives to control the spread of dengue nationwide. Following the hearing, the High Court issued the orders.
