A Dhaka court has granted a three-day remand for Kaushik Hossain Taposh, chairman of private TV channel Gaan Bangla, and actor Shomi Kaiser in an attempted murder case filed at Uttara East police station.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Saifuzzaman issued the order on Wednesday.

The case's investigation officer, Sub-Inspector Md Mohibullah of Uttara East police station, requested a seven-day remand.

The defense counsel sought to cancel the remand and applied for bail, which the state opposed.

After hearing both sides, the judge approved a three-day remand.

On Sunday, police arrested Taposh from Uttara and sent him to jail on Monday, setting the remand hearing for Wednesday.

Actor Shomi Kaiser, daughter of martyred intellectual Shahidullah Kaiser and a member of the Awami League’s Liberation War sub-committee, was arrested by Uttara West Police on Tuesday night.

She has been active in Awami League politics and previously sought a nomination from the party for national elections.

The case information reveals that during an anti-discrimination protest on July 18, businessman Ishtiaq Mahmud and others were present at the rally.

Allegedly, Awami League, Jubo League, and Chhatra League members attacked and fired shots in front of Nawab Habibullah High School in Sector 4, Azampur, Uttara East.

Ishtiaq sustained a gunshot wound in his abdomen and was treated at Evercare Hospital, after which he filed a case.

Taposh and Shomi Kaiser are named as the 9th and 24th accused in the case, respectively.
