Atiqul Islam, former mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation, has been sent to jail after being shown arrested in three separate murder cases filed with Mohammadpur police station.
The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ali Haider issued the order on Thursday.
Earlier, the investigating officers of the three cases submitted petitions to show his arrest, while the defence lawyers applied for bail, which was opposed by the prosecution.
After hearing the arguments, the court ordered him to be sent to jail.
The three cases were filed over the killings of Md Al Shahriar Hossain by gunshot, autorickshaw driver Md Roni and seventh-grader Rakib.
All these cases involve allegations of joint attacks by police, Chhatra League and Awami League during recent protests.
Tejgaon police nabbed Atiqul Islam at about 6:30pm on Wednesday in the Mohakhali DOHS area of Dhaka.
