Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed on Wednesday invited 12 High Court judges, accused of corruption and collaborating with the Awami League, to tea, leading to changes in the chief justice’s scheduled activities for the day.
Sources familiar with the matter suggest that the 12 judges may lose their judicial powers following the meeting, with possible removal from their positions also on the horizon.
Several sources from the Supreme Court confirmed the invitation, though they declined to name the judges.
It is reported that these judges are facing various allegations of corruption and irregularities, with accusations that they acted as accomplices to the Awami League government.
At the same time, students were holding a protest outside the High Court, chanting slogans as part of their demand for the judges’ removal.
The protest was organized by the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, with participants staging a sit-in at the court premises.
