A Dhaka court on Tuesday placed former agriculture minister and Awami League presidium member Mohammad Abdur Razzaque on a two-day remand in a case involving the shooting and killing of businessman Abdul Wadud during the anti-discrimination movement.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbubul Haque granted a two-day remand.
The investigation officer, Inspector Jahangir of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), requested a seven-day remand for the accused.
The defence lawyer sought to cancel the remand and requested bail, while the prosecution argued in favor of the remand.
After the hearing, the court granted the remand period.
Abdur Razzaque was arrested from the Eskaton area of the capital on Monday.
On July 19, during a protest, businessman Abdul Wadud was shot dead by police in the Nilkhet area under New Market police station.
Following the event, Abdul Wadud’s brother-in-law, Abdur Rahman, filed a murder case against 130 individuals, including former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
