The former director of the National Security Intelligence (NSI), Monirul Islam, has been granted a three-day remand for interrogation in connection with the murder of Bahadur Hossain, a 17-year-old, during the anti-discrimination student movement.
The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court in Dhaka issued the order on Thursday afternoon.
Monirul Islam was arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) from the Kotwali police station area on Wednesday night.
According to court sources, a case was filed on September 30 accusing him of shooting and killing Bahadur Hossain.
On Thursday, the police presented Monirul in court and requested a 10-day remand for further questioning.
In contrast, the defense sought bail, arguing against the remand. After hearing both sides, the court ultimately approved a three-day remand for interrogation.
Documents from the case reveal that Bahadur Hossain was shot near Shahjadpur Primary School on Progoti Sarani in Gulshan on July 19.
His father, Abu Jafar, subsequently filed a murder complaint at Gulshan police station.
