A case has been filed against 241 individuals, including former health minister Zahid Maleque, Manikganj District Awami League President Golam Mohiuddin, and General Secretary Abdus Salam, in connection with an arson attack on the Manikganj District BNP office during the anti-discrimination student movement.
On Wednesday, Mohammad Murad Hossain, convener of the Jatiotabadi Swecchasebak Dal Manikganj municipal unit and a lawyer at the Manikganj Judge Court, filed the case at Manikganj Sadar Police Station.
The case named 91 individuals and accused 150 unidentified persons.
Manikganj sadar police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) SM Amanullah confirmed the case filing.
The other accused include Awami League leaders Sultanul Azam Khan Apel, Kazi Enayet Hossain Tipu, Sudeb Kumar Saha, Amirul Islam Mattu, Abu Bakar Siddique Tushar, Abul Bashar, Abdur Razzaq Raja, Mahbubur Rahman Jony, Sifat Quraishi Suman, Rajidul Islam, Babul Sarkar, Israpheel Hossain (a cousin of Zahid Maleque), Afsar Uddin Sarkar, Arshad Ali Biswas, Zahidul Islam, Hashem Ali, and several leaders from affiliated organizations.
According to the case statement, under the direction of Zahid Maleque, and with the planning and support of Golam Mohiuddin and Abdus Salam, the accused poured petrol and set fire to the BNP office and a motorcycle on August 4.
The statement also mentions that firearms and other weapons were brandished during the incident, which caused damages estimated at Tk5 lakh.
