Several high-profile officials from the former Awami League government, along with journalist Mozammel Babu, have been arrested in connection with multiple murder cases linked to the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
The accused were presented before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s (CMM) Court in Dhaka on Wednesday morning.
Authorities requested that they be shown arrested in separate cases. Following the hearing, Metropolitan Magistrate Arfatul Rakib granted the request.
Former social welfare minister Dr Dipu Moni was arrested in two murder cases filed with Badda police station in the capital.
Additionally, the court approved the arrest of former law minister Anisul Huq, former prime minister’s advisor Salman F Rahman, former state minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak, and Ekattor Television Chief Editor and Managing Director Mozammel Haque Babu in a separate murder case.
Lawyer Morshed Hossain Shaheen represented the accused during the bail hearing, while Police Inspector Md Asaduzzaman and Advocate Omar Farooq Farooqui opposed the bail on behalf of the state.
After hearing arguments from both sides, the court denied the bail application and ordered their arrest in the respective cases.
