The High Court has declared illegal the decision of the NGO Affairs Bureau to cancel the registration of the non-government voluntary organization Odhikar.
The High Court bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Sashanka Shekhar Sarkar passed the order on Thursday.
Advocate Ruhul Amin Bhuiyan stood for the writ petitioner.
Odhikar's registration expired on March 25, 2015. Although the organization applied for renewal of registration, it was pending for a long time. In 2018, the Election Commission cancelled Odhikar's registration as an election observer.
Later, the government cancelled Odhikar's registration on June 6, 2022.
The registration renewal application of the organization was disposed of by an order of the bureau.
After waiting for a long time, the organization finally lost its registration. Later, they filed a writ petition with the High Court seeking a remedy.
