BNP leader Annie among 3 sent to jail

Produced before the court after expiry of 7-day remand

BNP Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie and two persons arrested in connection with the attack, vandalism, and arson of the Bangladesh Television Building in Rampura of the capital have been sent to jail after remand.

After the hearing on Saturday afternoon, the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ataullah passed the order.

The other accused who went to jail are Ghulam Dastgir Prince and ABM Khalid Hasan.

On this day, after the remand of seven days, the investigation officer of the case, Police Inspector Mohammad Yasin Shikder of Khilgaon Zonal Team, produced them before the court and filed a plea to keep them in jail.

On July 27, A Dhaka court granted a seven-day remand application of BNP leader Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie and three others arrested in the case of sabotage of Rampura police station in the capital.

According to the case documents, around three to four thousand unruly people, allegedly incited by BNP-Jamaat leaders, rammed the gate of BTV and started their rampage on July 18.

They vandalized many vehicles, rooms, and machinery and set those on fire. The anarchy caused a loss of Tk 50 crore to the state-owned TV channel.
