A Dhaka court has granted bail to garment exporter Rezaul Hasanat David in a case lodged over vandalizing and setting Setu Bhaban in the capital's Banani area on fire on July 18.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jashim passed the order on Wednesday afternoon.
On that day, the accused’s lawyer sought bail and the state lawyer opposed it. After hearing both sides, the court granted him bail until the submission of a police report.
Sub-Inspector Shah Alam from the general registration branch of the Banani police station confirmed the matter.
On July 25, a Dhaka court placed former Jatiya Party lawmaker Barrister Andaleeve Rahman Partho and businessman Rezaul Hasanat David on a five-day remand each in the case.
On July 30, David was sent to jail after remand. The court granted another three-day remand for Partho .
The attack on the Setu Bhaban took place on July 18.
Later, caretaker of the Setu Bhaban Rabiul Islam filed a case with Banani police station. According to the case statement, the bridge building suffered a loss of Tk300 crore.
