The High Court on Monday, while commenting on a video of six detained quota reform movement coordinators eating with DB chief Harunor Rashid, said do not mock the nation by taking people to the Detective Branch’s office and then seating them at a dining table.
The High Court bench comprising Justice Mostafa Zaman Islam and Justice SM Masud Hossain Dolon made the remark addressing the state during the hearing of a writ petition.
At one point, Additional Attorney General Mohammad Mehedi Hasan Chowdhury mentioned that he had seen on TV that these six coordinators were eating with forks and spoons.
In response, the court said: "Who asked you to do this? Why did you do this? Do not mock the nation. You take someone into custody and then seat them at a dining table."
The next hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.
The writ petition was filed in the High Court seeking an order to stop authorities from shooting at quota reform protesters. The petition also sought the release of six coordinators of the quota reform movement from DB custody.
The Detective Branch of police on Sunday said the coordinators of the quota reform movement were kept in its custody for their own safety.
