A Dhaka court has rejected the appeal of Laila Kaniz Lucky, the first wife of former National Board of Revenue (NBR) member Matiur Rahman, seeking the withdrawal of the ban on foreign travel.

As Laila Kaniz was not present at the hearing on Sunday, Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad Ash Shams Jaglul Hossain issued the order.

ACC Public Prosecutor (PP) Abdus Salam said Sunday was fixed as the day of the hearing. However, the applicant Laila Kaniz did not appear in court. For this reason, the court rejected the application without a hearing. There is no opportunity to hear the application later.

On June 24, following an ACC application, the court banned Matiur Rahman, wife Laila Kaniz and son Ahmed Taufiqur Rahman Arnob from travelling abroad.

Later, on June 30, Laila Kaniz appealed to the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad Ash Shams Jaglul Hossain to revoke the ban on foreign travel.

The court fixed July 28 (Sunday) for hearing the matter.
