A Dhaka Court has sent 10 accused out of 17, arrested in a case filed on charge of leaking questions of 30 recruitment exams in the last 12 years including the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) exam.
After a hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tahmina Haque denied their bail and sent them to jail.
The 10 accused are Syed Sohanur Rahman Siam, the son of Syed Abed Ali, the driver of the former chairman of the Public Service Commission (PSC), PSC Deputy Directors Md Abu Zafor and Md Jahangir Alam, Assistant Director Md Alamgir Kabir, Ex-army member Noman Siddiqui, Auditor Priyanath Roy, businessman Md Zahidul Islam, Narayanganj passport office security guard Shahadat Hossain, Dhaka immigration and passport office employee Md Mamunur Rashid and Shaheed Suhrawardy Hospital medical technician Md Niamun Hasan.
Earlier, the investigation officer CID's Additional Special Superintendent of Police Jewel Chakma produced the 17 accused before the court.
They were arrested during ongoing raids for allegedly leaking question papers of 30 recruitment exams over the last 12 years.
Later, the CID official filed a petition with the court to record the confessional statement of the rest seven accused.
They are- PSC Chairman's former driver Syed Abed Ali Jibon, office assistant Khalilur Rahman, office assistant (Dispatch) Sajedul Islam, businessman Abu Solaiman Md Sohel, two businessmen brothers Sakhawat Hossain and Saim Hossain and Liton Sarkar.
Meanwhile, on behalf of the 10 accused, lawyers Faruk Ahmed, Kawsar Ahmed, and some other lawyers filed a bail petition with the court.
After hearing both sides, the court rejected their bail pleas and sent them to jail.
The seven accused agreed to give a confessional statement.
However, finally, six accused confessed.
The case was filed by the CID with Paltan police station on Monday night under BPSC Act.
In the case, the names of 31 people have been mentioned and more than 50 unknown people have been made accused in the case.
A private television channel aired an investigation report on Sunday evening which uncovered the the scandal involving leaked question papers for 30 recruitment exams, including the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS).
According to the report, a syndicate of six officials and employees of the PSC had been involved in leaking exam questions for a long time.
