The court has set September 26 for the hearing of framing charges against Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat, the dismissed president of Dhaka Metropolitan South Jubo League, in a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The hearing for the charge framing was scheduled in the court of Acting Judge Iqbal Hossain of Dhaka Special Judge Court-6 on Tuesday.
Samrat appeared in court, however, his lawyer filed a petition for more time, stating they were not ready for the charge framing hearing.
The court granted the petition and set a new date for the hearing on July 26.
During the nationwide anti-casino operation, Samrat and his associate, then Jubo League leader Enamul Haque alias Arman, were arrested from Comilla on October 6, 2019.
On August 22, 2022, the court granted Samrat bail.
The ACC filed a case against Samrat on November 12, 2019, for acquiring wealth beyond known sources of income.
The case alleged that Samrat acquired illegal assets worth Tk29,480,000.
The following year, on November 26, 2020, the ACC submitted a charge sheet in court, accusing Samrat of acquiring illegal assets worth Tk222 crore.
