Belarus national gets life over murder at Rooppur plant

  • Court also fined him Tk25,000
  • Two were acquitted in the case

A Pabna court has sentenced a Belarusian national to life imprisonment for killing a Kazakhstan national in Rooppur Residential Project Green city in Pabna.

The convict is Matsveyeu Uladzimir, 43.

The court also fined him Tk25,000, in default, to suffer three months more in jail.

Two Belarusian citizens were acquitted as there was no evidence of involvement in the murder.

Pabna Senior District and Sessions Judge Court Judge Mohammad Waliul Islam announced the verdict on Wednesday afternoon.

Urbanavichus Vitali, and Fedarovich Henadz, were acquitted in the case. 

The defendants were present in court during the verdict.

Advocate Abdus Samad Khan Ratan stood for the state while Advocate Mukul Biswas and Hedayet Ul Islam stood for the accused. 

On March 26, 2022, the body of a Kazakhstan citizen named Shvets Vladimir and his injured brother were recovered from a building in the Novonihat Green City residential area of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project.

NIKIMT Company Director Vedorov Yuri filed a murder case against three Belarusian citizens. 

After the investigation, the police filed a charge sheet against the three Belarusian nationals on May 27, 2022. 

According to the case statement, Shvets was murdered over previous enmity.
