A Dhaka Court on Friday placed five people on a three-day remand each in a case filed over the Sadarghat launch accident that killed five people, including three of a family.
The remanded people are MV Farhan-6 drivers Md Abdur Rauf Hawlader and Md Selim Hawlader, and its manager, Md Faruk Khan, and MV Tasrif-4 drivers Md Mizanur Rahman and Md Moniruzzaman.
Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) Joint Director Ismail Hossain filed the case on Friday.
Earlier, the River Police arrested the five people on Thursday night, hours after the fatal incident.
The authorities also suspended the route permits and schedules of MV Farhan-6 and MV Tasrif-4 launches on Thursday night.
Besides, the government gave an assistance of Tk25,000 to the nominees of each deceased for burial.
On Thursday, five people died after the wire rope of the launch broke and fell down at Sadarghat. Among them are a child and a woman. Five more people were injured in this incident.
According to Fire Service and River Police, passenger launches MV Pubali-1 and MV Tasrif-4 were tied to the pontoon with wire ropes. At one stage, the rope of MV Tasrif-4 broke into pieces and hit the passengers after another launch, MV Farhan-6, tried to anchor in between the two launches.
