BNP leader Ishraque secures bail

  • Case was filed under the Explosive Substances Act, 1908
  • Police sued him in 2022

A Dhaka court has granted permanent bail to Ishraque Hossain, a member of the International Affairs Committee of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and a senior member of the party's Dhaka metropolitan unit, in a case filed with Jatrabari police station in the capital.

Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge As-Shams Jaglul Hossain passed the order after Ishraque surrendered before the court and sought bail in the case.

The BNP leader’s lawyer Advocate Mohiuddin Ahmed Chowdhury said Ishraque Hossain first got bail from the High Court in the case. Later, he surrendered to the Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court and got interim bail. The court granted him permanent bail today. ’

On December 10, 2022, the day after the Dhaka Divisional BNP rally, police filed a case with Jatrabari police station under the Explosive Substances Act, 1908 and Ishraque was made the number one accused in the case.

According to the case statement, during the police operation, the accused illegally assembled and exploded bombs and beat up police to obstruct police work and kill.
