A case has been registered against the chairman of Doail union parishad (UP) and his associate for allegedly raping a woman village police member in Jamalpur's Sarishabari.

The rape survivor filed the case in Jamalpur Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal 2 on Thursday.

According to the case statement, the woman works as a Village Police member in Doail union. On October 25, 2023, Kamal Hossain, 50, an associate of Doail UP Chairman Abdur Razzak Swapan, forced the woman's husband to divorce her. Then Kamal rented her a house in the Doail Bazar area.

He then allegedly raped her several times with the promise of marriage in the rented house.

Then she informed Chairman Abdur Razzak Swapan about the matter.

Afterwards, the chairman asked her to go to a house in the Shimla Bazar area of Sarishabari. Swapan then raped the woman in that house on January 22.

As she works under the chairman, she kept the matter a secret.

On March 5, Kamal went to the woman's rented house and raped her again. At that time, when pressed for marriage, he refused again.

Then, she said, she was forced to file a case.

Yusuf Ali, the lawyer for the plaintiff, said: "The woman tried to commit suicide by consuming poison on March 15 as she did not get justice despite approaching various people. After being admitted to hospital, she recovered after three days.”

“Judge Shahidul Islam of the tribunal took cognizance of the case and ordered the CID to investigate the allegations,” he added.

Meanwhile, accused Kamal Hossain said the allegations against him are false.
