A court on Friday granted bail to Pabna district Jubo Mahila League vice-president Mim Khatun alias Afsana Mim and her husband Md Obaidullah in a case filed for allegedly embezzling money through forgery.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shanta Akter granted the two accused bail on the condition of settling with the complainant.
Earlier police produced the couple before the court and pleaded to keep them behind bars till the end of the investigation of the case. The defence, however, pleaded for their bail, saying, they had settled with the complainant already.
The complainant later informed the court that they had reached a settlement with the accused and had no objection to their bail.
After that, the court allowed Mim and her husband to bail on Tk3,000 bond.
According to the case documents, Mim introduced her husband to the plaintiff and Juba League leader Moniruzzaman as her brother-in-law. Mim and Obaidullah took more than Tk13 lakh from the complainant as an investment for their business. When Moniruzzaman demanded his money back, Mim and Obaidullah started threatening him.
Moniruzzaman later filed the case with Gulshan Police Station.
