A Dhaka Court on Tuesday sent BNP Dhaka South unit Joint Convener Mohammad Nabiullah Nabi to jail after remand in a case filed under the Explosives and Special Powers Act at Jatrabari police station.

After producing him in court, Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Ashraful Alam, also the investigating officer of the case, asked to keep him in jail until the investigation is over.

Later, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Farzana Shakila Sumu Chowdhury issued the order.

On January 6, Nabi was put on a three-day remand.

According to the allegations in the case, on November 5, 2023, Nabi along with other leaders and activists reportedly chanted various anti-government slogans while armed with local weapons and cocktails, and created obstacles on the road, disrupting traffic.

Nabi and other accused allegedly hurled bricks and stones at the police. They are also accused of setting fire to two buses of the Turag Transport Company parked by the roadside and denoted cocktails, leading to chaos and disturbances on the road.

Police also claimed that Nabiullah Nabi was the main planner, financier, and instigator of the arson attack on the Gopibag Benapole Express train.

His family alleged that some plainclothes men picked him up from a house in Dhaka’s Uttara on January 5, around 12:30am.
