Judgment in graft case against Mirza Abbas on Nov 30

A court on Wednesday set November 30 for pronouncing judgment in a case filed against BNP Standing Committee member Mirza Abbas for amassing illegal wealth and concealing the information.

Judge Monjurul Imam of Dhaka Special Judge Court-6 passed the order as both the prosecution and defence concluded placing their arguments in the case on Wednesday.

The court on November 5 showed Abbas arrested in the case and allowed a defence plea for producing defence witnesses afresh. Dhaka Special Judge Court-6 on October 31 cancelled Mirza Abbas's bail in the case and issued an arrest warrant against him.

The ACC on August 16, 2007, filed a case with Ramna police station for amassing illegal wealth of Tk7.54 crore and concealing information about wealth of Tk57.26 lakh.

ACC Assistant Director Khairul Huda after probing the case, filed a charge sheet on May 24, 2008, accusing Abbas of amassing illegal wealth of Tk4.23 crore.

The court on June 16, 2008, framed charges against Mirza Abbas.
