A High Court on Wednesday granted bail to expelled Jubo Mohila League leader Shamima Nur Papia for six months in a case filed over amassment of illegal wealth filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
As a result, there is no legal bar to her release.
The High Court bench of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Mohammad Ali gave the interim bail along with a rule.
Advocates Rabiul Alam and Mohammad Hossain stood for the bail plea and senior advocate Khurshid Alam Khan for the in the court.
Earlier, Papia granted bail in multiple cases including cases under Arms Act.
On October 12, 2020, A Dhaka court sentenced expelled Jubo Mohila League leader Papia and her husband Mofizur Rahman Sumon to 27 years in prison each in an arms case.
On February 22, 2020, RAB arrested Papia and her husband, along with their accomplices, at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport with counterfeit banknotes, foreign currencies, and some cash.
On August 4, 2020, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case against the expelled leader of Jubo Mahila League Shamima Noor Papia and her husband Mofizur Rahman alias Sumon Chowdhury alias Moti Sumon on the charge of acquiring wealth outside the known income of Tk6.24 crore.
