Bangladesh sentences Pakistani man to life imprisonment in drugs case

  • Another Pakistani acquitted as he died during trial
  • Police detained them in February 2013 at Dhaka airport

A court in Dhaka on Thursday convicted and sentenced a Pakistani citizen to life imprisonment and fined him Tk20,000 in a case lodged over the recovery of 10.5kg of heroin.

Judge Iqbal Hossain of Dhaka Special Sessions Judge Court 5 pronounced the judgment in the presence of Allah Bokhsh, 48, son of Elahi Bokhsh of Multan, Pakistan. 

He was later sent to jail with a conviction warrant.

The court acquitted another accused, Md Harun, son of Abdur Rahman of Karachi, Pakistan, owing to his death in jail of natural causes during the trial.

Airport Armed Police Battalion (APBn) detained the two at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on February 27, 2013 and seized 10.5kg of heroin, worth around Tk10 crore, from their possessions.

The police filed the case against them the next day.
