The High Court (HC) has granted six-month bail to expelled union parishad chairman Mahmudul Alam Babu, the main accused in the murder case of Jamalpur journalist Golam Rabbani Nadim.
Deputy Attorney-General Anwara Shahjahan of the concerned court confirmed the information on Tuesday.
The HC bench of Justice Md Jahangir Hossain and Justice Mohammad Showkat Ali Chowdhury passed the order on Monday.
However, an application has been filed seeking a stay on the order.
Earlier, the court rejected the bail of six accused, including Mahmudul Alam Babu. Additional District and Sessions Judge Sultan Mahmud rejected their bail pleas.
Nadim, who was seriously injured in an attack allegedly by some supporters of Babu in the Pathati area of Bakshiganj upazila on June 14, died at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital the next day.
He was the Jamalpur correspondent for Banglanews24.com and a Bokshiganj upazila correspondent for Ekattor Television. He was also a member of the Jamalpur Press Club.
A case was lodged against 47 people naming now-suspended Sadhurpara union parishad (UP) chairman Mahmudul Alam Babu as the key accused in connection with Nadim's murder.
So far, 16 people have been arrested in connection with the murder of journalist Nadim.
