Two get death penalty for murdering man at Kurmitola

Judge M Ali Ahmed handed down the verdict and issued an arrest warrant against the duo as they have been on the run

A court here on Sunday sentenced two people to death for murdering a nursery gardener named Abul Hossain, at the city's Kurmitola Cantonment area in 2001.

The capital punishment awardees are nursery owner Mustafizur Rahman Liton and his employee Anowar Hossain Anarul.

Judge M Ali Ahmed of Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-2 handed down the verdict and issued an arrest warrant against the duo as they have been on the run since the trial began in 2003.

According to the case documents, the victim's body was found at a sewerage line in the MU Building of the Cantonment area on September 7, 2001.

The deceased's relatives filed a murder case with the Cantonment police station the same day.

The charges were pressed against the convicts on November 11, 2001. The trial started on June 26, 2003.
