The High Court has directed the authorities not to remand Rajshahi district chapter BNP Convenor Abu Sayeed Chand again in a case over making a death threat to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Besides, the HC ordered to consolidate all the cases filed against him in different districts on the same charge for holding their trials before a court in Rajshahi, said Barrister Kayser Kamal, one of the lawyers of the petitioner.

The HC bench of Justice KM Kamrul Kader and Justice Mohammad Showkat Ali Chowdhury passed the order on Sunday following a writ filed by the BNP leader's daughter Shireen Akhter.

Advocate AJ Mohammad Ali, Barrister Kamal and Barrister Mahfuzur Rahman Milan appeared for the petitioner while Deputy Attorney General Sheikh Shaifuzzaman represented the state.

Chand allegedly threatened to kill the prime minister while addressing a public rally, organised by district unit BNP, at Shibpur High School ground in Puthia Upazila of Rajshahi on May 19.

"No more 27- or 10-point demand, just one point now – send Hasina to the grave! We will do whatever is necessary to get Sheikh Hasina to resign,” he had said.

Several cases were lodged against the BNP leader in different parts of the country.

On May 25, a joint team of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) and district police arrested him from a private car at Veripara crossing under Rajpara Police Station.
