Update : 27 Oct 2021, 08:19 PM

A Dhaka court has sent journalist Zakir Hossain Emon to jail in a case filed by a female colleague under the Digital Security Act (DSA).

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Nivana Khair Jessy passed the order on Wednesday.

The investigating officer (IO) of the case produced the accused, the former president of Dhaka Sub-Editors Council, before the court and requested to keep him in jail till the end of the investigation.

After hearing both the parties, the court denied the defence counsel’s bail plea.

Emon was arrested from his home in the capital’s Rampura area on Tuesday night.

Rampura police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rafiqul Islam said: “Emon posted some personal photos and information of his female colleague on a Facebook page called ‘Black Cat’. He then sent the same message and page link to hundreds of colleagues in the inbox.”

He confessed to the crime during the overnight interrogation, the OC added.
