A Dhaka court on Sunday placed covered van driver Shamim on one-day remand in a case lodged over crashing North South University (NSU) student Sanjida Akter to death in the capital's Lalbagh Beri Badh area on March 31.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim passed the order as police produced the accused before the court and pleaded to place him on five-day remand.
According to the case documents, Sanjida Akter Tamanna was going to her home in Kamrangirchar area from Dhanmandi area by a ride-sharing motorbike. As the bike reached Beri Badh area, the covered van rammed it from behind. As Sanjida fell from the bike, the covered van ran over her, leaving her seriously injured.
Locals rushed her to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the attending doctors declared Sanjida dead.
