Testimony in graft case against BNP's Falu starts

A Dhaka court on Wednesday started recording deposition of witnesses in a graft case against BNP leader and former lawmaker Mosaddek Ali Falu.

Complainant and former deputy director of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Rahima Khatun submitted her deposition as first prosecution witness (PW) at Dhaka Special Judge Court-10.

The court adjourned the hearing till March 5.

The case was filed against Falu and his wife Mahbuba Sultana with Motijheel Police Station on July 8, 2007. The ACC later filed charge-sheet in the case. The two accused filed a plea with the High Court for quashing the case proceedings. The High Court later allowed Mahbuba Sultana's plea, but scrapped Falu's petition.

The concerned court on August 27, 2018, framed charges against Falu in absentia.

According to the case documents, Falu amassed illegal wealth of Tk45.66 crore and concealed information about the wealth of Tk10.60 crore.
