A Dhaka court on Sunday convicted and sentenced two people to death in a case lodged over the rape of two children in the Pirerbagh area of the capital's Mirpur in 2021.
The two convicts are- Md Fazlu, 32, and Md Zahirul Islam, 54. The court also fined them Tk1 lakh each.
Judge Mafroja Pervin of Dhaka Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-8 pronounced the judgment in presence of the two convicts and sent them to jail afterwards with a conviction warrant.
According to the case documents, the two convicts lured the two children, six and seven years of age, to a nearby rickshaw garage, promising them to give chocolates and raped them there on May 21, 2021. The mother of one of the victims came to know about that after seeing marks on her child's body.
The father of one of the victims on May 22, 2021, filed the case with Mirpur Model police station. Police on November 29, 2021, filed a charge sheet against the accused. The tribunal on Sunday came up with the judgment after examining five out of a total of nine witnesses on different hearing dates.
