Bail petition of 224 including Fakhrul, Abbas denied

A DB team picked up the two senior BNP leaders from their homes at around 3am on Friday

A Dhaka court on Monday denied the bail petition of 224 BNP leaders and activists including BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Shafiuddin passed the order after hearing the bail application, said Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir's lawyer Syed Zainul Abedin Mezbah. 

The other two people mentioned in the bail application are BNP leader Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie and Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP Convener Abdus Salam.

On Sunday, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas and five other members of BNP sought bail, in a case filed over planning and inciting an attack on policemen at Naya Paltan on December 7.

Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Rezaul Karim Chowdhury set Monday for the hearing.

The five other BNP leaders are Abdus Salam, Khairul Kabir Khokon, Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, Fazlul Haque Milon and Selim Reza Habib.

A DB team picked up the two senior BNP leaders from their homes at around 3am on Friday.

The police had brought them to the DB headquarters to question them about the clash on December 7 between BNP men and law enforcers.
