People in Bangladesh nowadays give and take bribes in US dollars, not taka, the High Court has observed.
The bench of Justice KM Kamrul Quader and Justice Muhammad Ali made the comment during a hearing of a corruption case on Tuesday.
Senior lawyer Md Khurshid Alam Khan stood for the Anti-Corruption Commission at the hearing, Deputy Attorney General Abdullah Al Mahmud Bashar represented the state.
At one point, the court said: “Bribes are given in gunnysacks filled with taka. That is not the case anymore; bribes are given in dollars. What is the ACC doing to curb corruption?”
