A Dhaka court has placed Daily Vorer Pata Editor Dr Kazi Ertaza Hassan on a one-day remand in a case filed over fraud.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mosharraf Hussain passed the remand order on Wednesday.

The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) arrested Ertaza, who is a director of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries, at his office in Dhaka's Gulshan on Tuesday night.

Abu Yusuf, PBI additional superintendent of police (media wing), said Ertaza's name had come up in the investigation of a fraud case filed at Khilkhet police station.

Md Saiful Islam Bhuiyan, deputy managing director of Ashiyan Lands Development, filed the case on January 10.

Abu Yusuf Abdullah, chairman of the board of trustees of Northern University, was arrested earlier in the case.

Two other accused in the case are Riazul Alam and Selim Munshi.

According to the case statement, Ertaza and the other accused purchased land from Ashiyan Group for a university in Dhaka's Dakshin Khan. They completed the registration without paying the full price.
