Also ReadA Khulna court on Sunday sent a former railway police officer-in-charge to jail over raping a woman at a police station in 2019.

Metropolitan Session Judge Mahmuda Khatun handed down the verdict when the accused inspector Osman Goni Pathan appeared before the court for bail, said bench assistant of the court Abul Kalam Azad.

According to the case statement, the 30-year-old woman was going to Khulna on a train when two railway police officers detained her without any cause or explanation on August 8, 2019.

She was also physically assaulted by a female police officer at that time. The woman and her daughter were later forcefully taken to Khulna railway police station (GRP) around midday.

When Osman Goni Pathan visited the police station in the evening, the woman questioned why she was being detained as the police did not find anything on her.

The same night, Osman sexually violated her twice.

The rape survivor was later released from the police station and was threatened not to file any cases against Osman.

However, she later sued Osman and several other police officers of Khulna GRP, who were aware of the incident.

Railway Circle Assistant Superintendent of Police Firoz Ahmed submitted a chargesheet against Osman on January 16, 2020.

The other police officers, however, were excused from the case as their involvement in the incident could not be proved beyond a reasonable doubt.

On August 7, 2019, Osman was withdrawn from his post.
